Starting Strength and Mark Rippetoe saved my life.
I'm confused, this didn't debunk anything at all. You made the correct point that an absolute beginner shouldn't get lost in the weeds with advanced ideas and techniques, but that doesn't mean it isn't helpful for more advanced lifters.
I miss 35s at the gyms. But if I had a home gym I wouldn't bother.
If you would describe the mid-bulk pics as “chubby” you’re just an idiot
Looking up never worked for me
5”8’ 195 30 years old Bench-265 Squat-315 Deadlift-405 Press-135 All of these numbers (except the press) were from my 2 years of training on my own pre-Starting Strength been working with an SS coach online since the end of April excited to see where I get
Our Dad taught my Brother and I to clean and press and do a few other lifts over 50 years ago. We did really well together. I'm still at it and still enjoy it. I enjoyed helping our Mom when she was prescribed exercises to slow the progression of Parkinson's. My experience has been that it can't work with everyone in the family, but when it works it can be great. Thanks.
Ngl, that shıt made me laugh and I'm one serious little prick so gj there.
YOU HAVE VERY GOOD NUMBERS
Not listening to you
Also some kids just arent ready and youve got to know your kid otherwise you could be making them have a miserable experience. My daughter is a sprinter and she's looking for extra training but I'll not coach her yet because really she isnt ready. I know that if i start trying to get her to squat with better form itll just make her upset so Ill leave it until I know she is really ready for the training.
A lot of people, especially women, seem to think thatbthr minute they start working out with weights they'll just turn into a hulk. I've heard it plenty of times that they've avoided using weights because they think it'll make them look butch and lose their curves. In my opinion women look way better having put on a bit of muscle.
Most of the time men just react differently to women when they're challenged. Like if I'm being coached and the instructor is barking at me then I'll respond. A lot of men just perform better when they're pushed harder and from the outside it almost looks like abuse. Some women react in the same way but a lot of women just shut down if you scream at them or critique them in a certain way. You have to know your client and you sure as hell should know them if they're family. A lot of women do just go to the gym for the social aspect of it. They meet friends there now and do a bit of a workout and then get coffee afterwards. It doesn't matter if they're mailing it in, that's their prerogative. I've tried training with my wife and she just doesn't want to do it. She wants to do a bit on the cardio machines and then spend the rest of the time on the machines.
Hey bro, how long did it take ? Did you add like 5 lbs a year ?
“We downt dew body parts. We downt dew ‘abs’, we downt dew ‘arms’ er ‘legs’: we dew ‘mewvment patterns’! The squat is a hip mewvment.” “Whut is strength? Strength is the ability to produce force against an external resistance. How dew yew get stronger? Ba’ lifting more weight!!!” “Running doesn't make yew strong! Getting stronger helps yew run”. “Who’s stronger: a 150lb guy who deadlifts 475, or the 275lb guy who can deadlift 500? THE GUY WHO CAN LIFT MORE is stronger!! I know thats terribly upsetting the the ‘functional fitness’ people!”
😂😂😂
My wife does Pilates and a little with free weights. She's expressed some interest in barbell workouts, but she is unwilling to spend more than 15-30 minutes.
The issue really is that it starts to get tough and they just don't want to push their body so hard. That's fine, it's their life to do as they choose. All you can do is offer advice and support them.
Grant is right -- people do have to decide for themselves what they want to do. And Jordy is right -- making that first point of exposure a not-negative (fun) experience will certainly help the person feel like they got a good payoff for going to the gym and solidify their decision to go. Good stuff!
Grant, who is this?
Phenomenal 🤯
Yeah I don’t relate to the bench struggle so much. Was always pretty gifted with that lift. It took me about 2 years of training to hit a 315 bench natty at around 205 pounds. Now squats and deadlifts on the other hand I’ve struggled much more with particularly in terms of injuries.
43 bw 210 5 months of my NLP 405x5 dl 360 5x3 squat 235 5x3 bench 165 5x3 press
MAGA
Close - MAGA Moron. I wonder if he does his 3 sets of 5 lol
😂
😂👍
😂
You could remember much better with red tie. Love from Montreal ❤
I just bought a 6kg bar for the kids (7yo’s) to deadlift with 5kg bumperplates so they can do the same thing dad does😅
Do bcaas break a fast?
For those totally new to weight training maybe ease them into it? Goblet squats, sled work, lat pulls, cable work, rack pulls. Then introduce the barbell.
It helps I think if you can show the benefits of weight training in the real world. Like the deadlift is a perfect example of lifting a heavy bag of shopping from the floor. Overhead press is how you would lift a box onto a high shelf. The stronger you are at these lifts the easier it is to do these daily activities. You'd be surprised at how people just wouldn't have thought like that. I used to sell computers and people would ask questions about components because they literally knew nothing. When I explained that the hard drive was like a storage cabinet and RAM was like having a bigger desk to fit more work on and the processor was literally the brains then you could see the little light bulb in their head switch on. If you can translate activities into the real world people just become much less intimidated by it. All of these weightlifting moves are moves you use in day to day life and doing them makes your day-to-day day life much easier.
Got my 15yo son in the gym now. He likes it. Ex-wife seems curious but I just drop advice to her, it's her decision if she wants to go down this road. Been trying to get my brother under the bar but he prefers that "corporate" style machine based workouts. I can only control my kids and myself. Good message Grant.
You don't 'control' your kids....
@@Kyleforthe3SIKE whatever you virgin
@@Kyleforthe3SIKE If you are a good parent you do.
@Kyleforthe3SIKE yes you do. They're children and they don't have the authority or maturity to make serious decisions all by themselves. I insist my children come to athletics club. Sometimes they grumble and say they want to stay and play Xbox but then, once they're there, they are running really well and enjoying the time with their team mates. It's this attitude of letting kids run their own lives which leads to them going out in the streets getting stabbed and doing drugs.
Thanks 😊
Kids don’t “train” They exercise and have fun. Getting them used to exercising and “working out” is a good thing. Can set them up for that drive when they do hit puberty and can start actually training.
Quanta carga devo adicionar a cada sessão?
This is strange, because Israetel actually spoke with Rippetoe on Starting Strength Radio around three years ago. It is, in fact, the next video in the sidebar list of recommendations! Were things not made clear to him *then* ? When did that Dave Tate's Table Talk footage take place?
A 180pd man is capable, my friend can bench 375pds at 180pds.

If you work out Monday, Wednesday and Friday. What if you did the vertical diet from the meal before the Monday workout through the Friday workout. Carnivore from after the Friday workout. I think that you can get the benefits of both diets. What do you think?
thats life on 5x5 program
LOL accurate.
I made 315 and I was 48 at the time. I'm rebuilding to get back to it (just a little more) and then I want to push beyond 315 and see if 365 or even 405 is possible for me. I am working out consistently at least three times per week. 3 plates is a significant achievement. 225 means you're serious. 315 means you're dedicated.
Reverse gripped 315 for 10 reps when I was in high school. Really not a big deal.
Fuck it one more set lmao
Does he just go to the barber's with a photo of Teddy Roosevelt and say, "this?"
If you can add 300lbs to a deadlift or squat as a Beginner in a year..You Are a GENETIC OUTLIER! STOP the BS PROMISES! I been a Competive Powerlifter for years and Winning,It took YEARS to get a 1,500 lb total.
513lbs at age 17 at 210lbs, played center as a football player. I really didn't work out a lot back then. I have always been unnatural strong. Now at 54 couldn't squat 250lbs don't think😁
Exactly 🤦🏻♂️ Trump 🇺🇸💪🏻🫡👍🏻🙏🏻
Only way to get there fast is to have a spotter that knows how to spot you and or safety bars
I've been stuck in 365 for a decade
At 50 years old, 5' 7" and 195 lbs. (probably 20% body fat) I could still bench 340lbs. 5 years later at about 185 lbs. I could still bench 315lbs. Then life happened, and I lost a lung due to cancer. Now I'm 70 and I'm back in the gym again after 15 years. My problem now is that I'm more susceptible to a pec tear. So, my goal now is staying light, say 225lbs., and being able to rep that out for 10. No idea if I'll get there, but the journey is half the fun. 😁
